Global Warming, a Global Warning.

We are having the highest levels of greenhouse gases in 650,000 years. That is Global warming. This

is what scientists predict will result: 50,000,000 environmental refugees by the year 2010, Arctic ice- free within 50 years, and billions of deaths this century. Development of an ice-free Northwest passage would create maritime problems between the US and Canada.

Global warming already leads to 150 thousand deaths a year according to a team of health and climate scientists at the World health organization. The causes are heat-stroke, malnutrition, exacerbated spread of disease, floods, and droughts. Also, melting glaciers are causing earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.

There are other significant impacts already occurring as a result of global warming. For example, an Alaskan village is falling into the sea. In summer large amounts of the Northwest passage are now ice free. Arctic temperature has risen 3-4F in the past century. Climate change is now a major threat to indigenous people and wildlife. The indigenous people of the Bering sea and another sea around Russia predicted these changes but were treated with skepticism.

If we help NOW we can avoid the worst.
